While pushing Congress to approve his sweeping immigration reforms, President Biden has tapped Cass Sunstein to join the Department of Homeland Security to help shape policy and ensure that new policy is consistent with existing law.
A recipient of the Holberg Prize in 2018 for law and the humanities, Sunstein has a long history with Biden going back to when Biden was on the Senate Judiciary Committee and Sustein was an advisor regarding nominations and interpretation. He also worked under Obama from 2009-2012 as Administrator of the Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs. Sustein is a former professor at the University of Chicago Law School and Harvard Law School and is considered by many as a leader in constitutional law and public policy.
Biden has nominated Sustein’s wife, Samantha Power, to the position of Administrator of the US Agency for International Development.
