The 2024 Nobel Prize in Economics has been awarded to three American immigrants: Daron Acemoglu (Turkey), Simon Johnson, and James Robinson (United Kingdom). Since 2000, immigrants have accounted for 28% of Economics awards. The Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences highlighted that this year’s laureates emphasized the significance of societal institutions in a country’s prosperity. Overall, 38% of Nobel prizes awarded to Americans in economics, chemistry, medicine, and physics since 2000 have been won by immigrants.
