Burkino Faso’s military government, led by Captain Ibrahim Traore, announced its refusal to accept deported migrants from the United States, a decision which will likely heat up the tension between the country and the west. The United States responded by halting all visa processes of Burkina Faso citizens through the US embassy in Ouagadougou.
Karamoko Jean-Marie Traore, the Foreign Minister, called the attempt at relocation “indecent.’
The African nations of Eswatini, Ghana, Rwanda, and South Sudan have already agreed to take in deportees from the United States and Ghana maintains that it has received nothing in return from the United States.
