Up until now, the deadline for submitting form I-163 was within 60 days of filing for lawful permanent resident status. The hope was that this deadline would streamline the process for review and approval. Unfortunately, the deadline seems to have slowed down the process as immigrants have to find qualified physicians to complete their end of the process often resulting in rejection or a request for evidence when the deadline wasn’t made. Oftentimes, the application process had to be started over.
According to the USCIS, the deadline is being extended to two years with the hope that the process will, in fact, streamline the process thus preventing reapplication and/or rejection delays.
