The United States has announced deportation relief to around 11,500 Lebanese nationals under the Deferred Enforced Departure Authority. This relief applies to those who have been in the U.S. for at least 18 months as of July 26, 2024, or continuously since that date, unless they’ve returned to Lebanon after this date. Exceptions include individuals with felony convictions, multiple misdemeanors, or those deemed a danger to society or subject to extradition. President Biden has also authorized employment for those deferred. This measure comes in response to worsening humanitarian conditions in Lebanon due to deteriorating relations between Israel and Hezbollah.
