A federal judge has struck down a Biden administration policy aimed at easing the path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants married to U.S. citizens. The program, which allowed undocumented spouses and stepchildren of U.S. citizens to apply for a green card without leaving the country, was expected to benefit about 500,000 immigrants. Texas-based U.S. District Judge J. Campbell Barker ruled that the administration had exceeded its authority, overextending the legal interpretation of immigration law. This ruling follows a temporary hold placed on the program in August. The initiative, part of the “Keeping Families Together” program, faced uncertainty, especially with the possibility of Donald Trump’s return to office.
