U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has issued updated guidance regarding voter registration access at its administrative naturalization ceremonies.
The key points of this updated guidance include: USCIS affirms its commitment to providing access to voter registration services at every administrative naturalization ceremony. They will request the presence of election officials from state or local government election offices at these ceremonies. In cases where state or local government election officials cannot attend, USCIS offices will coordinate with non-partisan, non-governmental organizations to provide voter registration services. USCIS will make efforts to allow governmental or non-governmental organizations offering on-site voter registration services to introduce themselves and address the naturalization candidates before the ceremony.
To streamline the process, USCIS has introduced Form N-401, Voter Registration Services Attestation, which non-governmental agencies can use to request participation in administrative naturalization ceremonies.
These updates aim to align with Executive Order 14019, which promotes and supports access to voting and seeks to eliminate any barriers that might hinder new citizens from registering to vote during the naturalization process.
